Greenville SC Neck Pain Relief

Natural Solutions to your Neck Pain!

I don’t often experience it, but when I do, I can’t get my mind off of it. That’s what neck pain is like for me. I completely understand the phrase of calling something a “Pain in my neck” because it’s something that annoys and nags at you and you can’t get it off your mind. Luckily I don’t get neck pain any more, but that wasn’t always the case. I used to have it all the time. I was involved in numerous contact sports as a child, so all of tackles, clashes, falls, and injuries took its toll. This is the case for most people. Maybe you weren’t involved in all of the activities I was, but everyone has plenty of little falls, slips, bumps and bruises that add up over time. “Not me!” you say? If you think that’s the case then you aren’t realizing the stresses and strains you are putting on your body on a daily basis. Even if you don’t realize all of these little falls, there is another more subtle stress that causes neck pain. It’s called poor posture. Have you ever sat at your computer for more than an hour with poor posture? I bet your neck was feeling the tension from holding your head up that long. Most people think it’s their muscles that are the problem, and while there muscles are being affected, there is something more serious going on that isn’t well understood. Spinal misalignments (aka subluxations) are the culprit. These sneaky fellows prevent your neck bones from lining up properly, making you hold your neck in a less-than-optimal position, leading to your neck muscles working harder and fatiguing faster. If you sit with poor posture long enough it will strain your spine and cause a misalignment. Just like a rubber band will give out if you hold it in an elongated, stretched position for long enough. Now the spinal bone (aka vertebra) is misaligned and jammed out of place, not allowing you to hold your head in an ideal position, fighting gravity, and welcoming sore and fatigued muscles to the equation. If a person has a spinal misalignment and it isn’t addressed by a qualified chiropractor, then you can expect that area of your spine to decay. That’s right…it will wear out and decay. Just like the tires on a car wear out quicker and unevenly they aren’t aligned properly, the vertebrae will break down and wear out faster if misaligned.

“That’s just normal with old age!” is a common counter to my logic. I light up when someone says this as I’m showing them their xrays of their decaying neck vertebrae. On their xray are several bones that are worn out and decayed, a few that look good, and maybe one or two that still look pristine. I ask them as I point to the healthy looking vertebrae, “If old age caused your spine to decay, then why are these vertebrae here not decaying, aren’t they the same age as these decayed ones?” This usually causes them to pause and think about it. “Oh, I guess you’re right” is a regular response. And that’s where chiropractic can help. It removes the misalignment in the spine and allows it to move properly, getting the stress and strain off of the joints, muscles, and delicate nerves adjacent to the vertebrae. Even if the degenerative and decay process has started in the spine, chiropractic can help. In some cases, the spinal degeneration is reversed. That’s why catching these misalignments as soon as possible is the number one thing you can do to prevent spinal decay. Be warned, your neck pain may disappear long before the problem is fully corrected. The pain and discomfort is usually relieved within a few weeks, however, fully correcting a problem and keeping it from returning takes a longer. Just like Rome wasn’t built in a day, if your neck has been hurting and decaying for the past 5 years, it’s not going to be fully fixed overnight (or even a several nights for that matter). Full correction can take 6 months-3 years depending on your situation. To obtain this correction, a chiropractor will thoroughly check your spine for these misalignment and should get a series of xrays to see the exact condition of your spine. Once the condition of your spine and the exact misalignment of your spine is determined, your chiropractor can make a specific adjustment to correct it. Some people experience miracle-like relief after their first adjustment. For others, it is a more gradual process. Either way, continue to go until full correction is made and then maintain your spine with regular adjustments (as your chiropractor will determine for you). Then be prepared to never worry about your “pain in the neck” ever again! "I appreciate the time Dr. Wright spent with me during my initial evaluation. He took x-rays to diagnose my situation and then reviewed the results with me. I was fully involved in formulating a treatment plan that worked for both of us. At the first visit, Dr. Wright helped alleviate my lower back pain, and with subsequent visits, it is completely gone! One area that I was unaware of was a problem area in my neck. I had gotten used to a limited range of motion and thought it was “normal” for me. After a few adjustments, I have flexibility that I have not had since I was very young. It is remarkable what a difference Dr. Wright has made in my every day activities! I would highly recommend him to anyone for their chiropractic care."  -E.S.
